Proximal mediation analysis

چکیده

Summary A common concern when trying to draw causal inferences from observational data is that the measured covariates are insufficiently rich account for all sources of confounding. In practice, many may only be proxies latent confounding mechanism. Recent work has shown in certain settings where standard no-unmeasured-confounding assumption fails, proxy variables can leveraged identify effects. Results currently exist total effect an intervention, but little consideration been given learning about direct or indirect pathways through a mediator variable. this work, we describe three separate proximal identification results natural and effects presence unmeasured We then develop semiparametric framework inference on effects, which leads us locally efficient, multiply robust estimators.

Mediation analysis.

Mediating variables are prominent in psychological theory and research. A mediating variable transmits the effect of an independent variable on a dependent variable. Differences between mediating variables and confounders, moderators, and covariates are outlined. Statistical methods to assess mediation and modern comprehensive approaches are described. Future directions for mediation analysis a...

mediation: R Package for Causal Mediation Analysis

In this paper, we describe the R package mediation for conducting causal mediation analysis in applied empirical research. In many scientific disciplines, the goal of researchers is not only estimating causal effects of a treatment but also understanding the process in which the treatment causally affects the outcome. Causal mediation analysis is frequently used to assess potential causal mecha...

Causal Mediation Analysis

Estimating the mechanisms that connect explanatory variables with the explained variable, also known as “mediation analysis,” is central to a variety of social science fields, especially psychology, and increasingly fields like epidemiology. Recent work on the statistical methodology behind mediation analysis points to limitations in earlier methods. We implement in Stata computational approach...

Causal Mediation Analysis Using R∗

Causal mediation analysis is widely used across many disciplines to investigate possible causal mechanisms. Such an analysis allows researchers to explore various causal pathways, going beyond the estimation of simple causal effects. Recently, Imai, Keele, and Yamamoto (2010c) and Imai, Keele, and Tingley (2010b) developed general algorithms to estimate causal mediation effects with the variety...

Current Directions in Mediation Analysis.

Mediating variables continue to play an important role in psychological theory and research. A mediating variable transmits the effect of an antecedent variable on to a dependent variable, thereby providing more detailed understanding of relations among variables. Methods to assess mediation have been an active area of research for the last two decades. This paper describes the current state of...
